Yoshino Somei ( (そめ) () (よし) () Somei Yoshino) is one of the main protagonists of the Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii manga series as well as its anime adaptation.

She is the granddaughter of the fourth-generation head of the Somei Group, a directly affiliated organization to the Kansai Region's largest designated criminal group. She used to live in Osaka but moved to Tokyo due to her engagement to Kirishima, which led to a significant change in her life. She has a flashy appearance and have sold her own kidney for 4 million yen.

Appearance[]

The most distinct detail about Yoshino is her striking resemblance to her grandfather, Renji. According to most people, she is the spitting image of Renji when he was young and if he'd been a girl. Yoshino has large light brown eyes with visible upper lashes, she also sports violet (at times maroon) hair that extends to her shoulders in waves with bangs parted at the middle, usually she styles it when she's in school or when shopping. She regularly wears formal dresses when going out, but prefers wearing casual clothes or a kimono when at home.

Although Yoshino is considered beautiful, she often receives criticisms about it and had been called names such as "The hostess of Umeda" , "Mrs. Divorced with kids" and "Pretty face you get tired of in three days."

Personality[]

Despite growing up surrounded by yakuza men for most of her life, Yoshino grew up to be a fairly normal young woman. She is shown to be independent, responsible and very adaptable, being described by Miyama Kirishima as someone who would start making a home and get comfortable even when cornered, which is true as she was able to completely adjust to her new life in Tokyo.

Yoshino holds her pride close to her heart, claiming that without it, she would be considered dead. She also has a deep sense of loyalty to her family and dislikes any actions used to threaten them and their territory. This was shown when Kirishima insulted Shouma Toriashi and when he accidentally caused trouble in Osaka. Even though it's not often stated, it's obvious that Yoshino grew up somewhat spoiled.

Although calm in most situations, Yoshino can get agitated and flustered when teased by her grandfather or when confronted with Kirishima’s eccentric behavior. Because of her general distrust and paranoia, she often rejects Kirishima’s affections and would often be wary of his presence. However, they would still have a somewhat amicable and peaceful relationship due to Yoshino seeing Kirishima’s “love” for her as leverage while living in Tokyo.

Yoshino also possesses a very caring and nurturing side, as seen with her interactions with Shouma. She often worries about his studies at university and constantly reminds him about his part-time jobs. She is also very tolerant with Kirishima’s behavior and even reacts impassively towards the fact he’s seeing other women despite his claims of loving her. Even telling Kirishima that what he does in his own time is his own business and has nothing to do with her, considering that they were not dating at the time.

Both Shouma and Renji Somei often remarked that Yoshino has a “terrifying” temper that would often lead her to make rash and unpredictable decisions, which is proven true when she was so consumed by her anger with Kirishima that she had one of her kidneys (later revealed to be 1500 milliliters of blood) removed and risk leaving herself in a near-death state for two weeks. She also seems to be more intimidating and bold when angered as small glimpses of her domineering side slips out when pushed too far—a side of her that Kirishima seems to enjoy.

Plot[]

Background[]

A 16-year-old high school girl, the granddaughter of Renji Somei, who is the head of the Somei-gumi, a direct affiliate of the fourth-generation Miyama-gumi, the largest designated criminal organization in Kansai. She has a strong core but is easily influenced in personality. Despite growing up in a Yakuza family, she has a rather ordinary demeanor. She is attractive, but her flawless appearance has led people around her to call her names like "Umeda hostess," which has kept her from having a boyfriend.

Concerned for her well-being, her grandfather arranges her engagement with Kirishima Miyama, the son of the Fukuyama family, a Kanto-based yakuza organization led by Fukuyama Ekin. She moves to Kirishima's house in Tokyo, but her sheltered upbringing leaves her inexperienced and she is coerced into engaging in inappropriate activities. She faces bullying after transferring to a new school and briefly considers returning to Osaka. However, with encouragement from her grandfather, she resolves to seek revenge against Kirishima. Using her connections, she sells her own kidney and confronts Kirishima with the proceeds, inadvertently leading to Kirishima genuinely falling in love with her.
